Roddy Ricch has accused YouTuber Prieto Hunter of trying to extort him for $50,000 in exchange for the return of the rapper's Grammy Award.
The Grammy, which Roddy won for his performance on "Racks in the Middle" with Nipsey Hussle in 2020, was allegedly discovered by Hunter in an abandoned storage unit last month.
On December 2, 2024, Roddy went live on Instagram to give his side of the story, detailing his attempts to retrieve the valuable award.
The Grammy, which had been placed in storage during the rapper's travels, was reportedly mishandled after his assistant was involved in an accident, leading to it being forgotten in a storage locker.
The situation escalated when Hunter, who purchased the storage unit for $280, discovered the Grammy among other items. He initially claimed he was willing to “work something out” with Roddy for its return.
However, when the rapper’s team reached out, Hunter allegedly raised his demands, asking for both $50,000 and an Audemars Piguet watch.
Roddy, who had originally offered $10,000, explained, "First he asked me for an AP, then he asked me for $50,000. So it was never about 'Oh, we're going to do it on just the strength of trying to get it back to you,' it was more so about a na trying to get clout off it or a na trying to extort me for $50,000.”
Roddy further explained the frustration of the situation, noting that while he was willing to offer money for the Grammy’s return, Hunter seemed more focused on creating a spectacle.
"He showed up with two cops and three n***as with cameras," Roddy said.
Roddy emphasized the emotional significance of the Grammy, explaining how the award represents a personal achievement for him and his community.
He also denied any involvement in the threats that Hunter claimed he received during their negotiations, saying, "I ain't never sent no threats or none of that type of s**t."
Hunter, known for his YouTube videos documenting his finds from abandoned storage units, previously stated he intended to record the Grammy return on video, adding another layer of drama to the situation.
However, Roddy made it clear that he was only interested in getting his Grammy back in a peaceful manner.
The two were eventually able to reach an agreement, and the Grammy was returned, though under tense circumstances.
Hunter met with Roddy’s assistant at a police station to finalize the exchange, with cameras in tow. Roddy concluded the incident by reflecting on how the Grammy was mishandled, while also asserting that he never wished for the conflict to spiral into something bigger.
