A Florida woman, Sarah Boone, was sentenced to life in prison on December 2, 2024, for the 2020 murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr. Boone, 47, was convicted of second-degree murder after trapping 42-year-old Torres in a suitcase overnight, resulting in his suffocation.

The chilling incident took place during a night of drinking and a game of hide-and-seek. Boone recorded a disturbing video of Torres inside the suitcase, where he could be heard pleading for help. Boone mocked his cries, saying things like, "That’s what you get" and "That’s what I feel like when you cheat on me." Torres was found dead the next morning.

During the trial, Boone's defense team argued that she had been a victim of abuse, claiming that Torres had subjected her to violent behavior throughout their relationship. They presented her actions as a result of "battered spouse syndrome." However, the jury quickly rejected this defense, convicting Boone after just 90 minutes of deliberation.

At her sentencing, Boone expressed remorse and asked for forgiveness, acknowledging her love for Torres despite the abuse claims. However, the emotional testimony from Torres' family, who spoke about the impact of his death, highlighted the devastating toll the murder had on them. Boone had previously rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in a 15-year sentence. Now, she faces life in prison.
