A woman lost her life after allegedly being subjected to severe torture by her in-laws in Mughalpura on Monday.
The police have launched an investigation, and the body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
The victim, identified as Aniqah, was married to Junaid Ghulam Farid for four years and reportedly endured consistent domestic abuse. Her father, Sheikh Shaukat, claimed the violence culminated in a brutal attack involving her husband, mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
"Last night, I received a call about my daughter being beaten. When I arrived, I saw Junaid's family torturing Aniqah on the upper floor of their house," said Shaukat.
He alleged that Junaid's sisters, Neelam and Iran, restrained Aniqah's arms, while her mother-in-law, Izzat Bibi, held her legs.
Junaid reportedly inflicted severe blows with an iron rod.
Aniqah was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The police transferred Aniqah's body to the mortuary via an Edhi ambulance.
Following a complaint filed by Sheikh Shaukat, Mughalpura police arrested Junaid.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect used a belt and pipe in the assault, adding that the case had been registered and transferred to the investigation wing.
DIG Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran took notice of the incident and directed SP Civil Lines, Dr Abdul Hanan, to ensure swift action.
"Protecting the lives and property of citizens, especially vulnerable women, remains our top priority," stated Dr Hanan.
