Leon Edwards is gearing up for his comeback to the UFC after a brief hiatus. The former welterweight champion will headline the UFC London event on March 22, 2025, marking his return to the octagon after a year away.

The announcement came during the DAZN broadcast of the boxing match between Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai for the WBC interim flyweight title on Saturday.

While his opponent remains unannounced, Edwards (22-4, 1 NC) is eager to jump back into the title chase. The 33-year-old British fighter has been sidelined since losing his welterweight title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in July 2024.

The loss came via a dominant decision from Muhammad, but it followed an impressive 13-bout unbeaten streak in which Edwards defeated high-profile opponents like Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

Edwards’ most memorable victory came in August 2022 when he shocked the world by defeating Usman in a dramatic fashion at UFC 278. In one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history, Edwards knocked out Usman with a stunning head kick in the final minute of the fight, stealing the belt despite being behind on the scorecards.

Aside from his victories over Usman, Edwards’ résumé includes wins over top contenders such as Nate Diaz, Vicente Luque, Donald Cerrone, and Rafael dos Anjos.

The UFC’s return to London will take place at The O2 Arena, with the event expected to be a Fight Night. The addition of Edwards to the card adds significant excitement as the British fighter looks to regain his spot at the top of the welterweight division.
