Blame game: Wassan and Pir Mazhar hit back at Mirza

KARACHI:

Dr Zulifqar Mirza is a parha likha jahil [educated fool], said Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan while talking to the media after a meeting at the Chief Minister House on Monday.

Critisising Mirza, Wassan said that he [Mirza] had been talking against different political leaders, including some members of the Pakistan Peoples Party, on someone’s orders. Responding to a question about Mirza’s allegation that the home minister was illiterate, Wassan said that he knew how literate Mirza was and did not need his stamp of approval. “I ask him once again to stop criticising me, na cher malanga nu [don’t annoy me],” he said.

Talking about the operations being carried out in the city, Wassan said although some people had been annoyed, at least the authorities had been able to control the situation.

Sindh Senior Minister Pir Mazhul Haq also criticised Mirza and said that he [Haq] had spoken the truth about his meeting with Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain and had no intention of becoming popular overnight. In a statement issued on Monday, he said time would tell who was right.

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik also spoke to the media after the meeting and said that a list of arrested target killers would be presented in parliament. “Some people are annoyed with our overall performance and have started levelling charges against us,” he said.  “We have arrested around 44 target killers and I assure the people of Pakistan that no one will be released. Some people were talking against me for cheap publicity.” Malik added that during the interrogation they had found out that the target killers and extortionists were not affiliated with political parties.

Rahman Malik says that 44 target killers plus extortionists arrested during the on-going operation in karachi didn't belong to any political party - a statement devoid of veracity. No body is going to believe this. The names of arrested target killers (44) should be named public, preferably on the floor of the assembly so that the rulers could not use them for political bargaining. Furthermore, please don't keep these target killers as 'achaar' (pickle). Put them on trial with strong prosecution and people will see you don't resort to weak prosecution (paving way for their ultimate release) for you to be able to please their masters/handlers to complete your political agenda.
