HYDERABAD:

Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl's chief Molana Fazlur Rehman has credited himself for expunging certain provisions from the draft of the 26th constitutional amendment which would have violated human rights in the country. Speaking at an event in Larkana district on Thursday, he recalled that there were 52 articles which were supposed to be amended but thanks to him the number was dropped to 22 articles.

"Some provisions existed in the draft which went against the human rights," he claimed, adding that his party succeeded in winning over the ruling parties to remove those provisions from the draft. Rehman said JUI-F believed in advancing its politics by means of democratic struggle.

The General Secretary of Grand Democratic Alliance Dr Safdar Abbassi, who hosted Rehman's visit, reiterated that his party does not accept allegedly fake mandate of the February, 2024, general elections under which the federal and provincial governments have been formed. "The defeat of the candidates of GDA and JUI-F [in the general elections] was engineered to give seats to the candidates of Pakistan People's Party."

He underlined importance of political coordination in Sindh between the two parties which had electorally supported each other in the last elections. The JUI-F Sindh's leader Molana Rashid Mehmood Soomro claimed that if the constituencies in Kashmore-Kandhkot, Jacobabad and Shiakarpur are honestly reopened, their parties' candidates will emerge successful.
