SC rejects plea on multi-seat contests

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea against the law which allows a candidate to contest elections from more than one constituency.

The petitioner argued that allowing candidates to contest elections from multiple constituencies violates the law and Constitution. He said the principle of "one person, one vote" is fundamental to the electoral system. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel observed the proposer and seconder belongs to the same constituency as per law, adding the legislature has allowed a candidate to contest from more than one constituency.

Later, the court dismissed the plea by maintaining the objections of the Registrar Office.
