The ongoing deadlock regarding the venue for the 2025 Champions Trophy remains unresolved after India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the event. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to hold a board meeting on Friday to explore potential solutions.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, three key options are on the table for discussion. The first is a hybrid model, where the majority of matches would be played in Pakistan, but India’s fixtures would be held in a neutral venue outside of Pakistan.
The second option involves moving the entire tournament outside Pakistan, although the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would retain hosting rights. The third and final option would see the entire event taking place in Pakistan, but without India’s participation.
The third option, while financially detrimental to the tournament, is expected to spark less debate over the potential economic impact.
A PCB official confirmed to ESPN Cricinfo on Thursday that the board had informed the ICC that the hybrid model would not be discussed at the upcoming meeting, significantly reducing its chances of being adopted.
The official further stated that the PCB has requested the ICC to present a reasonable or acceptable proposal ahead of the meeting.
