Fazl offers to play role for PTI

JUI-F chief condemns violence in Islamabad; urges consensus on canals issue

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday condemned the violence during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest and warned of potential anarchy if the party insisted on releasing its leader while the government remained resolute in keeping him jailed.

Speaking to media in Larkana, Fazl offered to mediate for the PTI but lamented the lack of consistent communication from the party.

"If the PTI stays in touch, I can play a role for them," he said, adding that the current situation was rooted in the February 8 elections.

The JUI-F chief noted that while PTI had announced its intent to march to D-Chowk, the government made extensive arrangements to block the protesters. However, the demonstrators still managed to reach the site, leading to violence in Islamabad, which Fazl strongly condemned.

He emphasized that true loyalty from a worker lies in dedication to their ideology and leadership.

He highlighted that good leadership channels such dedication toward moderation and constructive paths. "Workers should advocate their cause without resorting to violence," he advised.

Speaking about the Kachhi Canal project, the JUI-F chief stressed the need for building consensus on such matters. "We are all one nation. Steps should be taken on such matters only after consulting the provinces."

He said that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were suffering unrest but the governments of both the provinces were not serious. He also said that he would discuss a previously-agreed draft on the madrassas with the government soon.
