KARACHI:

The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) has finalised work on reviving the tradition of radio drama, a heartwarming relic of the past.

The radio drama series, titled Awaaz Radio Theatre, comprises six 20-minute scripts written specifically for this project. Notably, these dramas are original works, not adaptations of novels or existing writings.

According to head of NAPA theatre Afreen Sahar, this initiative is a collaborative effort with Queen Mary University of London, the English Speaking Union, and the British Consulate.

The project aims to revive the charming tradition of radio drama, which has become a relic of the past.

Radio drama, a style of entertainment that relied solely on sound, was once a captivating medium that kept audiences enthralled for hours.

With the passage of time, however, this tradition has been largely forgotten, and the new generation is unfamiliar with this style of drama. To revive this tradition, NAPA has launched the Awaaz Radio Theatre series. After a rigorous selection process, six 20-minute dramas have been written, and the next stage involves recording the background music.

In an interview with The Express Tribune, Afreen Sahar revealed that work on the Awaaz Radio Theatre had been underway for four years.
