KU to launch degree programme in AI
The University of Karachi (KU) has decided to start a four-year-degree programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Department of Computer Science.
The proposal of four-year BS programme in AI has been included in the agenda of the meeting for approval by the Academic Council of the KU. The meeting is scheduled for December 3 with Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi in the chair.
The Board of Faculty (Faculty of Science) and the Board of Studies of the Department of Computer Science have given go ahead for this programme. If approved by the Academic Council, admissions in the ;programme will commence in the upcoming academic session.
The rules for admission and the number of available seats are yet to be finlised. Talking to The Express Tribune, the KU VC said, "We aim to provide students with quality education in modern disciplines.
The programme has been sent for Academic Council approval after detailed consideration and review by the Board of Faculty."
Chairman of the Department of Computer Science Dr Sadiq Ali Khan said that the AI curriculum has been developed following the guidelines provided by the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC).
Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor KU, two new interactive smart classrooms are in the final stages of completion within the department building.
The classrooms will facilitate both teaching and technical workshops.
It may be noted that the Department of Computer Science, KU is already offering four-year BS degree programme in Software Engineering and Computer Science.
