Katt Williams transforms Alabama military base into movie studio to boost regional film industry

Katt Williams purchases Alabama military base to develop a state-of-the-art film studio

Katt Williams is expanding his career into business and entrepreneurship by purchasing a former military base in Alabama, which he plans to transform into a state-of-the-art film studio. The comedian and actor revealed his ambitions in an interview with GQ, aiming to emulate the success of Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry.

“It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry,” Williams shared in the interview published on November 30, 2024. “He can only do so much.” His publicist, Amy Sisoyev, confirmed the purchase but withheld details, stating to AL.com, “I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet, but I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama.”

While the exact location remains undisclosed, speculation points to the Cold War-era barracks at Fort McClellan in Anniston, listed for $1.5 million. Luxe Group broker Connie Alexander, representing the seller, said the property was acquired through an LLC but noted Williams frequently visited during the purchase process. “It’s a visionary endeavor, and we’re excited to see how this historic site evolves under his leadership,” Alexander added.

Locally dubbed "Starships," the property reportedly includes 30 concrete buildings spanning three million square feet, with amenities like 10 barracks, two gymnasiums, and over 90 acres of flat land. The project has the potential to boost Alabama's film industry and create new opportunities in the region.

This milestone caps off a successful year for Williams, who gained attention with his Netflix special Woke Foke and a viral appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. He is set to begin his Heaven on Earth comedy tour in 2025.
