Introduced to the Juice Crew by Biz Markie, Swan’s distinct voice elevated hits like MC Shan’s ‘Left Me Lonely’ and Biz Markie’s ‘Make the Music with Your Mouth Biz’ and ‘Nobody Beats the Biz.’ His soulful contributions played a significant role in the success of these records.
The news of his passing prompted heartfelt tributes from prominent hip-hop figures, including Jazzy Jeff, Killer Mike, Posdnuos of De La Soul, and Big Gipp. Swan’s influence extended beyond his era, with his hook from ‘Left Me Lonely’ being sampled in Big Gipp and Nelly’s chart-topping track ‘Grillz.’
