Insurance firm's officials booked for fraud with lawyers

A health insurance scam concerning the legal fraternity has surfaced in Sukkur

A health insurance scam concerning the legal fraternity has surfaced in Sukkur district where the C-Section police have booked two officials of an insurance company on complaint of a lawyer.

Former president of District Bar Association Sukkur Shafqatul Raheem Rajput has nominated Chief Executive Officer of Sindh Insurance Company Faisal Siddiqui and Dr Kamran Memon in the FIR under sections 463, 464, 468, 469, 470 and 471 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), pertaining to forgery. According to Rajput, an agreement was signed with the company in presence of five officer bearers of DBA Sukkur and three of the Sindh Bar Council on August 12, 2023. He stated that the Sindh government had provided Rs120 million for health expenses of the lawyers and the same amount was utilised for their insurance.

Subsequently, he added, the health cards were issued to the lawyers of Sukkur along with a list of the hospitals in which they could avail the insurance. He alleged that the cards and the list turned out to be fake.

Earlier, Sindh High Court Bar Association Sukkur's President advocate Qurban Malano and DBA Sukkur's President Syed Naveed Shah told the media in Sukkur that the company has defrauded thousands of lawyers. According to them, under the agreement the company was supposed to provide up to Rs200,000 per annum financial support to each member of the bar for a period of five years. They also claimed that they paid Rs120 million to the company. The two lawyers blamed three individuals including Siddiqui, Memon and Muneer Ahmed Khan for the fraud.
