Winter brings respite from dengue

Dengue patients in private hospitals have started to decrease, with 158 patients currently admitted

Authorities have announced to lift the dengue emergency as the number of dengue cases have declined due to colder temperature. According to the health department dengue season is officially set to end on December 1.

The health department remained unable to curb the dengue outbreak, but the onset of cold weather has led to a significant decline in dengue cases. In the last 24 hours, hospital admissions for dengue patients dropped by 60%, with only 41 new cases reported.

As a result, hospital beds previously occupied by dengue patients are becoming vacant and nearly half of them are now empty. The total number of dengue patients has reached 6,375. Additionally, two patients have been diagnosed with Congo virus and 671 with measles.

Dengue patients in private hospitals have started to decrease, with 158 patients currently admitted, 12 are in critical condition. This year, 11 deaths have been reported due to dengue so far. Authorities have registered 6,046 cases for finding dengue larvae and issued 3,607 challans for 1,894 properties found with larvae. As a result, fines totalling Rs23 million have been imposed this year so far.

According to experts, dengue cases are expected to dwindle to zero by next week. The outbreak is anticipated to subside once night-time temperatures drop to 12 degrees Celsius.
