The Punjab government has provided Rs50 million to the city district government Lahore (CDGL) for the purchase of anti-mosquito spray to fight dengue in the city, The Express Tribune has learnt.
Over 2,100 patients had been reported positive in public sector hospitals during the last two weeks. The anti-mosquito spray by the CDGL’s health wing had proved ineffective and the number of patients was on the rise. The CDGL told the Punjab government that it was facing financial constraints for procuring more anti-mosquito spray to be sprayed in the areas where dengue cases had been reported. The chief minister directed the authorities to import the insecticide from abroad. After the chief minister’s direction, the CDGL demanded Rs50 million as a supplementary grant. The city district government health wing would make a single source purchase of spray with this amount, said an official.
