Former cricketer Muhammad Nazir Junior passes away after a prolonged illness.

Former national cricketer and umpire Muhammad Nazir Junior has passed away after battling serious health complications. His son, Noman Nazir, confirmed his father’s death today.

Nazir Junior, 78, who represented Pakistan in 14 Test matches and 4 One Day Internationals, was widely respected both for his playing career and his subsequent umpiring duties in 15 One Day and 5 Test matches.

In the last week of his life, Nazir Junior had been critically ill, suffering from a chest infection and ascites, and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Lahore.

His son Noman had recently appealed to the government and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for support to ensure his father received the necessary medical care.

The PCB, which had assisted the family in the past, was urged by Noman to step in again during this particularly difficult time.

Nazir Junior, a former off-spin bowler, was particularly notable for being the first spinner to take the most wickets in the first innings of his debut Test match. Throughout his career, he took a total of 37 wickets in international cricket.

However, in recent years, Nazir had been struggling with complications from a severe traffic accident five years ago, which had left him with lasting injuries.

The cricket community and fans alike have mourned the loss of a prominent figure, who contributed not only as a player but also in his role as an umpire, and sent heartfelt condolences to his family.
