In a speech to Karachi’s business community, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir expressed optimism about Pakistan's economic recovery and future stability, saying that the clouds of despair that overshadowed the country a year ago have now dissipated.
“I have complete confidence in Pakistan's bright and stable future,” said General Munir. “A year ago, there was a cloud of despair over the country, but today, all economic indicators are positive, and God willing, they will improve further in the coming year.”
He emphasised that "despair is forbidden for Muslims," echoing his previous statements that optimism is key to overcoming challenges. The Army Chief noted that the country’s economy was showing signs of improvement and predicted a brighter future for Pakistan's economic landscape.
General Munir also took aim at those who had spread pessimism and suggested the country was on the brink of default. “Where are those who talked about default?” he asked. “Shouldn’t they be held accountable?” He stressed the importance of prioritising the nation over personal or political interests, stating that nothing, not even politics, should come before the wellbeing of the country.
“Pakistan is like a mother; its value is known by the people of Libya, Iraq, and Palestine. Remember, we have no identity other than Pakistan,” he said, stressing national unity.
He urged the business community to invest in Pakistan, highlighting that the country’s economic stability could only come through collective efforts. “If we stand united, no one can harm us,” he said. “You can bring your money to Pakistan, and the people will earn, and the country will prosper.”
General Munir concluded by saying that terrorism is often funded by illegal businesses backed by certain elements, and stressed that the state is responsible for protecting Pakistan's digital borders and ensuring the digital security of its citizens.
