HYDERABAD:

The office of the mayor and the provincial government face no obstacles from the opposition yet, they are unable to resolve the potable water issue Hyderabad, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MPA Engineer Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani.

"The provincial government has three PPP ministers and mayor from Hyderabad, still the city is facing issues like sanitation and lack of water supply," Qaimkhani said.

He reminded that after converting the status of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) into a corporation, the Sindh government has now left the people of Hyderabad high and dry. Water and Sanitation Corporation is short of funds as well as powers to make recoveries of water bills.

Citizens, already burdened by rising inflation, are forced to purchase water from the mafia or from other sources.

Owing to the incompetence of the Sindh government and its ministers, employees of WASA and HDA have not received salaries and pensions for the past ten months, due to which, poor workers are facing serious financial crisis.

Incompetence and corruption in the government is destroying civic institutions. The government is intentionally withholding funds for HDA and WASC, which could have been used to improve these organisations. Moreover, the lack of coordination between WASC and HESCO is hampering proper supply of water to Hyderabad and Latifabad, leaving the public to suffer.

Qaimkhani demanded of the higher authorities to take notice of the situation to end the injustice being meted out to Hyderabad and Latifabad people and ensure proper supply of water without any further delay.
