A British Airways stewardess has reported a shocking incident, claiming she woke up screaming to find a colleague sexually assaulting her during a layover in Rio de Janeiro.
The accusation, which has sent shockwaves through the airline, led to the cancellation of two flights, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
According to the stewardess, the assault occurred in an airline hotel room where she had been sharing a bed with two male colleagues after a night of socializing in Rio's vibrant nightlife scene.
She alleges that one of her colleagues was masturbating and touching her when she awoke. BA immediately "stood him (the man) down," with the suspect sent back to the UK as a passenger on a BA flight.
Scotland Yard officers met him upon arrival and are now investigating the allegations.
The alleged victim has reportedly provided a detailed account to the authorities. A Scotland Yard spokesperson confirmed: “Police are investigating an allegation of sexual assault committed against a 33-year-old female whilst she was abroad in South America. The victim is being supported by specialist officers.”
The incident has left some crew members traumatized, with three reportedly unable to continue their duties. Flights between Rio and Buenos Aires were canceled, causing widespread disruption for passengers.
“This incident has traumatised some staff and shocked everyone at BA,” a source revealed. “An evening of high-jinx the night before has resulted in an incredibly serious and upsetting allegation, which could end careers and lead to criminal convictions.”
British Airways expressed its support for the involved staff, stating: “It would be inappropriate to comment during a police investigation.”
The allegations have opened discussions about the responsibilities of airlines to ensure a safe environment for their staff, even during layovers, as investigations continue to unfold.
