Apple offers fix after iPhone users report missing iCloud notes

Earlier this some iPhone users temporarily losing all of their notes in the Notes app

Earlier this month, reports surfaced of iPhone users experiencing a temporary loss of all their notes in the Notes app after accepting Apple's updated iCloud terms and conditions.

Now, Apple has indirectly acknowledged the issue through a new support document, which details steps for those whose iCloud notes are not displaying on their iPhone, iPad, or Vision Pro devices.

The missing notes can be re-synced from iCloud, and Apple’s support advice largely mirrors steps provided in previous guidance. The instructions are as follows:

1. Open the Settings app and select your name.
2. Tap iCloud, then tap Notes.
3. Ensure “Sync this [device]” is enabled, then check the Notes app.
4. If notes are still missing, restart your iPhone, iPad, or Vision Pro, then review the settings once more.

Once completed, the notes should start syncing across all devices connected to the same Apple account, restoring any content previously stored in iCloud.

Apple introduced updates to its iCloud terms and conditions in September, and users have been prompted to accept these changes in recent weeks. Since initial reports of disappearing notes, affected users have continued to voice their concerns on social media.

The notes issue is not the only reported problem. In a separate support document, Apple also addressed a "Cannot Complete Action" error that some iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pro users encounter when attempting to accept the updated iCloud terms and conditions. Apple advises affected users to update to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or visionOS and then try again.
