The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday confirmed a temporary suspension of mobile internet services in some areas of Balochistan, saying that the step had been taken to ensure public safety.
According to PTA officials, mobile internet services had been temporarily suspended in some areas of Balochistan on the instructions of the competent authorities. The initiative had been taken in view of the law and order situation in these areas, they added.
Balochistan has seen a spike in incidents of terrorism in recent weeks, including bomb blasts near a girls school in Mastung on October and another one at a railway station earlier this month. Besides there were several other attacks on civilians and security forces by terrorists in the province.
According to PTA officials, the temporary suspension of mobile internet services was aimed at ensuring public safety.
