The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police has arrested three key drug dealers in the upscale DHA Nishat Commercial Area, as part of a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the metropolitan city. According to a CTD spokesman the raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off received by the department's intelligence wing about a network of drug peddlers operating from a DHA flat. Investigations revealed that while many of those arrested in the past have been low-level dealers supplying drugs at universities, colleges, and social gatherings, the major players in the city's drug trade are located outside Karachi. These traffickers supply large quantities of narcotics both within Pakistan and internationally.
One such network was identified, involved in the distribution of heroin and 'ice' or crystal methamphetamine, throughout Karachi. The drug syndicate was found to be operating from a flat in Nishat Commercial, DHA Phase-VI, where the narcotics were being stored and processed. After days of surveillance, CTD officials arrested three suspects, identified as Javed Khan, a travel agency agent; Nazim Nasir, a builder; and Ahmad Raza, a small businessman. The operation also yielded seven kilograms of heroin and three kilograms of high-quality crystal meth. The suspects revealed that the drug ring had connections to major international suppliers.
