Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke, just weeks away from his 99th birthday, recently shared his blunt perspective on the prospect of Donald Trump's upcoming term as president.
Caught on video by a paparazzi, Van Dyke joked that he’s glad he “won't be around” to experience the four-year term, hinting at his age and acknowledging his own mortality. Asked if he believed Trump's "make America great again" promise, the 'Mary Poppins' star responded with a sarcastic quip, adding, “I hope you’re right!” with a hint of skepticism.
This isn't the first time Van Dyke has voiced political opinions. Just before Election Day, he released a YouTube video in support of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, reading an anti-hate speech written for him by 'Twilight Zone' creator Rod Serling in 1964. Reflecting on social progress since his civil rights activism with Martin Luther King Jr., Van Dyke emphasized that while progress may be slow, it’s crucial. His humor and insight reveal the enduring perspective of an entertainment icon unafraid to speak his mind on modern politics.
