Bollywood actor Aamir Khan revealed that he nearly retired from films to focus on family, but ultimately reconsidered after emotional discussions with his children, Junaid and Ira Khan.
In a recent interview with Indian media, Aamir disclosed that he privately informed his family of his decision, prompted by a sense of guilt over dedicating most of his life to cinema.
Aamir shared, “I had decided to quit before Laal Singh Chaddha. I realised I had devoted all my energy to films since age 18 and hadn’t been there enough for my relationships or family.”
This decision, he explained, came during the COVID-19 pandemic, which he described as an intense period of personal reflection.
In his family meeting, Aamir informed his children and ex-wife Kiran Rao of his intent to step back from acting.
His son Junaid, however, urged him to find balance instead of quitting altogether.
“Junaid told me, ‘Why do you have to go from one extreme to the other?’ He encouraged me to find a middle ground,” Aamir recalled.
Kiran, who was deeply affected by Aamir’s decision, initially asked for a private moment to discuss it. “She said, ‘You’re a child of cinema; by leaving films, you’re leaving us,’” he shared.
Jokingly, his daughter Ira added that having Aamir at home full-time might be overwhelming for the family.
Aamir ultimately decided to continue acting and signed six new projects, hoping to make the last ten years of his active career the most productive.
“I want these to be my best years, collaborating with musicians, writers, and directors who inspire me,” he said.
