Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad exchanged views on Monday to give fresh impetus to their existing bilateral cooperation in various fields ranging from trade and economy to security and intelligence sharing.
During the meeting, the two leaders called for an increase in coordination between the two countries as an important step towards enhancing trade and solving regional security issues.
Ahmadinejad said Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan should make coordinated efforts to solve security issues amongst themselves to avoid foreign interference. “Combating terrorism requires unity and coordination between governments and nations,” Ahmadinejad said, adding “enemies of our nations...seek to spread insecurity and create obstacles in the way of regional countries developing.”

" Bharosa kar nahee saktay ghulaamoan kee baseerat pur Jisay zeba kahain azaad bunday ; hai vohee zeba".....Allama Iqbal

Slaves cannot be relied upon for their acumen and vision whatever the free men say ; theirs alone is the right view.
Only if an Iranian like Government is in Pakistan only then will there be freedom in Pakistan from the bondage of the west
@Cautious: Well. In past right. But international community opinion is misused by the big powers' agencies and their game play according to "national interest". Their intentions and behaviour is now exposed. Fortunately developed countries people are also getting awareness and education now. New regional tie ups is the way ahead.
A closer relations with a country that is considered a pariah by the international community isn't going to help Pakistan's already poor reputation. If Pakistan chooses to ignore international sanctions it isn't going to take much for sanctions to be imposed on Pakistan.
@peace lover: Hats off to you what a time/historical fact you have high lighted I wish all who are working for others against ground reality read and mend their path of destruction.Already our sixty year of life they have wasted dragging us on the wrong track.
As before, lots of obstacles will be created in these natural ties with Iran as well as with China by our people who are(players in power corridors and bureaucrats) still watching others interest. The destiny and prosperity of people of Pakistan only lies with sincerity to its all immediate neighbours not with the west and Arabian countries for them already wasted 50 years.
This warning goes to you ..Mr SM Krishna !!
what about direct flights from Islamabad and Tehran ? and any relaxation on visa policies for pakistanis, specially business visas?
We have been foolish in seeking strategic depth in Afghanistan which has brought us nothing but terrorism in our home country in the form of Taliban. We should have forged close ties with Iran even in the 1990s as close relations with Iran means strategic depth in true sense of the word. In the wars against India in 1965 and 1971, when Afghanistan was hostile to us, our airforce parked its planes and took off from Iranian soil and used Iranian airbases That is the only time we have really enjoyed strategic depth in our history not the 1990s when Taliban ruled Afghanistan. In fact our support for Taliban and its consequence have left us with strategic shrinkage instead of strategic depth. We need to reverse that shrinkage by forging close relationship with our neighbours. Long live Pak-Iran friendship
Pakistan and Iran relations are limited to words only. Iran, the energy exporter, Pakistan, the energy importer, both are good friends but what practical steps both have taken on economy in last 20 years? Nothing! only talking and talking.
Government of Pakistan has to decided now do we want Iranian gas or not. Four years down the road, Gilani's government is still hesitant about IPI pipeline while Pakistan's gas shortage is now killing its economy. What a shameful energy policy!
Excellent news. But this statement should be a part of strategy and foreign policy and reflected in our actions as well.
@Khan: So Iran gave us $100M and China dropped $4.7M?? Am I reading this correctly????
Iran gave us $100M? Us? No, Not us but him and his corrupt Mr. 10%. These two theives will divide it among themselves and whatever will be remaining ( if any), They will throw that bone to other Hungry hounds of their Party MNA'a and MPA's.. No Money will ever reach the suffering poor citizen of Pakistan who are the direct victim of this flood. Or PM's wife will take a million dollars out of her Husband Fair share of $100M, and she will fly immediately to London and will Gamble in a high class casino for a whole week and then go to Harrods and bring 40 cases of shopping on a PIA Plane free of cost and without paying custom duty, as they did before. These leaders beg in the name of Pakistan Public and feast on that money. Otherwise do not you think that Yusuf Raza Should be sitting hinself in Sindh and monitoring rescue operation? Zardari already left the country for London where he will stay in 5 star hotel and will beg in the name of Pakistan Flood. This is their profession. Get used to to it or come out get him, Mr. 10% and all PPP Theives and do the justice. These looters will not go away otherwise.
@Wellwisher: PM Gillani when talking about ;ties; , means the imported silk ties that he changes every day with matching lounge suites. There is no comparison between him and Ahmad Nejad.
No one will be allowed to harm ties with Iran: PM And we will not allow better bilateral ties between Afghanistan and India. Is it right?
It is premature to predict about any future prospect of this intricate relationship, however, one thing is clear that with the transition phase comes nearer this situation compels Pakistan to forge ties with its regional stakeholders that have stake in Afghanistan. The relation between Pakistan and the US, as we all know, is at its lowest ebb, so this integrnum in US-PAK relation gives Pakistan the opportunity to enhance affinity with nation like Iran and others. This is an augur sign for this relation specifically and for the whole region generally, but it remains to be seen that for how long US-PAK relation will go on like this because the bonhomie between Pak-Iran relation depends upon the relation of US-PAk. Overall there are so much complex issues still to be resolved between Iran and Pakistan.
I guess our PM will also adopt Mr. Ahmadinejad's lifestyle.
Assalam-o-Allaikum Warahmatullah.Much the best statement given by PM Gillani but the question rises that what our corrupt, beggars and slaves leaders shall do if their worldly master USA imposed terms and conditions of aid for Pakistan with the the revision of relations with Iran?Because our corrupt leaders have already shown their cowardice and bowed down their knees before USA when USA blocked military aid.
So Iran gave us $100M and China dropped $4.7M?? Am I reading this correctly????
Isn't Iran under sanctions by USofA and China minting money??? Iran should be our close alley, we are both Muslim nations and we have more in common with them i.e. culture, language, history etc.
pakistan-iran dosti zindabad. america is just 200 years old. pakistan-iran relations are 2000 years old! strengthen these relations.
This is a great step forward for both Nations and People, If only they would open up borders And allow tourism for all, Now if they would both help their own people and show off their fine people.
Gilani thanked Iran for providing $100 million to help the flood victims ????????? wonder if this money will reach to the deserving people
Great move. Finally. iran-pak and afghanistan has everything and can jointly expell any forrreign pressure. Business and cultural tight ties.
the hurdle was USA.
