In a unique farewell, a family from Indian Gujarat’s Amreli district recently held a funeral for their 12-year-old compact, which they fondly referred to as their “lucky car.”

The emotional ceremony, which saw an estimated 1,500 people in attendance, cost the family a substantial Rs 4 lakh (INR).

The car, adorned with marigold garlands and rose petals, was lowered into a 15-foot deep pit in a ritualistic manner as part of the “samadhi” (burial) ceremony.

The car’s owner, Sanjay Polara, explained that the vehicle had brought prosperity, success, and respect to his family over the years.

“This car has been with us since 2006, and it has brought us nothing but good fortune,” Polara shared with an Indian publication.

“Instead of selling it, I decided to bury it as a tribute to the memories and blessings it gave us.” As part of the ceremony, Polara plans to plant a tree at the burial site, symbolizing the enduring impact of the “lucky car” for future generations.

The tree will stand as a living reminder of the car's significant role in the family's prosperity. The event quickly went viral online, with people expressing amusement and fascination.

As the video went viral, netizens quickly saw the humor in it and shared their reactions. One person wrote, “Archeological survey will be excavating wagon in year 3024.”

Another user quipped, “People in the future are gonna trip on this.”

A third user wrote, “This happens only in India.”
