Hundreds of people belonging to the Christian community gathered at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Karachi to offer special prayers for world peace, with a particular focus on peace in Pakistan.
The grand event marked the closing of the Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi's jubilee year. The gathering, held in the St. Patrick's High School on Saturday, saw hundreds of people from different parts of the city coming together to demonstrate religious devotion and unity.
Led by clergy, students, and various parish communities, the historic procession moved from the school grounds to the church. With hymns scenting air, the group offered prayers along the way, creating an atmosphere of deep reverence and devotion.
Law enforcement agencies provided support to ensure the procession proceeded peacefully, closing roads around the school and church temporarily and diverting traffic until the procession reached its destination.
Father Mario Angelo Rodrigues, speaking to The Express Tribune, said, "The Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi was established 75 years ago," highlighting the jubilee year's importance, which officially concludes next week. Over 150 churches and 16 parishes participated in the event, creating a spiritual gathering intended to foster unity and devotion to the Holy Eucharist.
The culmination of the jubilee year carried profound meaning for those attending, symbolising a renewed commitment to faith and gratitude for God's blessings.
Led by Archbishop Benny Travas, the Eucharistic celebration included prayers of gratitude and blessings, closing the year with a benediction that allowed participants to reflect on the spiritual graces received. Special prayers were offered for world peace, particularly in Pakistan, and for the healing of the sick.
