In the latest episode of ABC’s 9-1-1, a silent yet powerful scene between characters Buck, played by Oliver Stark, and Eddie, portrayed by Ryan Guzman, left fans emotional and resonated deeply with audiences. The season 8 episode 6, titled "Confessions," concluded with Eddie welcoming a distraught Buck into his home, offering comfort without words. Discussing this scene with Entertainment Weekly, Stark commented on the strength of their “Buddie” friendship, saying, “They don’t have to speak…there’s a source of strength there that has been built up between them.”
Stark explained the importance of this silent interaction, highlighting how Buck and Eddie’s characters handle challenges differently but find solace in each other’s presence. “It’s this safe space that they create for each other,” he noted. Despite Eddie’s upbeat mood, he acknowledged Buck’s need for support, saying, “Buck is obviously a real mood killer…but they can do that together.” Guzman added that their bond is such that “they just want to be around somebody they know, they trust, they feel comfortable around.”
The touching moment, which aired on November 7, also humorously included Eddie clad in his “Risky Business”-inspired attire, a nod to Tom Cruise’s iconic dance scene, which added levity. Showrunner Tim Minear also praised the scene, noting the unique dynamic and silent strength of their bond. “They don’t need to talk,” Minear said, “the point is ‘I need somebody right now. And I trust you probably more than anyone in this moment.’”
