Shootout leaves passerby injured

Pindi police say one assailant arrested, two at large

RAWALPINDI:

Occupants of a car opened fire at an Excise and Taxation Department team in the precinct of the Mandira police station in Rawalpindi, leaving a passerby injured.

According to a spokesperson for the police, Ghulam Nabi was injured during an exchange of fire with the fleeing suspects. He further said the excise department team was conducting routine checks and flagged down a suspicious vehicle, prompting the occupants to open fire and flee.

The team pursued the suspects, and near Mohra Mandu, the victim was struck by a bullet fired by the fleeing suspects.

In the exchange, one suspect, identified as Ijaz, was apprehended, while the other two managed to escape.

The injured was shifted to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention, however, officials did not disclose the details of his current condition and the severity of the gunshot.

Mandira Station House Officer (SHO) Chaudhry Zulfiqar confirmed that a case has been registered against the suspects.

He said police teams were actively working to locate the remaining suspects still at large.
