The district monitoring officer of Central Karachi has imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman for violating electoral rules.
Similar fines of Rs10,000 rupees were also levied against Gulberg Town Chairman Nasratullah and UC Chairman Farooq Naimatullah.
According to the ruling, Rehman violated electoral regulations by participating in an IT-related programme linked to the JI-affiliated NGO Al-Khidmat on November 3 at the Singham Ground in Block 9, Federal B Area.
Prior to the ruling, the monitoring officer issued a show-cause notice to Rehman, requesting an explanation regarding his actions. Based on the lawyer's response, the officer announced the decision on Thursday.
The Regional Election Commissioner Karachi has forwarded a report concerning Hafiz Naeem, Nasratullah, and Naimatullah to the Election Commission.
