Several prominent U.S. talk show hosts reacted with dismay and shock following Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory. Jimmy Kimmel expressed deep concern on his show, referring to the outcome as a “terrible night” and reflecting on what he believes the election could mean for various aspects of American life. "It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech,” he said, underscoring his concerns for democracy and decency in America.

Kimmel continued, saying, "And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too, you just don’t realize it yet.” The host’s comments echoed the sentiment among several of his peers in late-night television. Stephen Colbert opened his show with the words, “Well f***, it happened again,” highlighting his disbelief at Trump’s return to office. Colbert commented on Trump’s “bizarre and vicious campaign,” which he characterized as driven by “a desperate need not to go to jail.”

On NBC, Seth Meyers shared his own critical view, saying, “I don’t think Donald Trump’s a good person; I’d even go so far as to say he’s a bad person.” Meyers acknowledged the importance of accepting the results, adding, “That’s how democracy works in America. A country that is a privilege to live in.” Meyers’ comment reflects the ongoing divide in the U.S., with talk show hosts expressing both personal and political concerns over Trump’s second term.
