Elon Musk, CEO of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), recently indicated that X could face a shutdown if Kamala Harris wins the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Musk discussed his concerns on “The Joe Rogan Podcast,” asserting that a Harris administration would increase pressures on X through intensified advertiser boycotts, influenced by organizations like the Center for Countering Digital Hate. Musk claims this nonprofit has significantly impacted X’s advertising revenue by pushing a boycott since he acquired the platform, describing the group as “a total scam organization” that operates “like the Ministry of Truth in Orwell… a censorship organization.”

Musk believes that a potential Harris presidency would further strain X’s advertising relations. “If Kamala wins, we’ll see that the boycott gets stronger. And they’ll friggin shut down,” Musk said, speculating that government dynamics under Harris could lead to X’s forced closure.

Musk’s comments reflect his ongoing concerns over government regulations and what he perceives as censorship in the digital space, a stance he’s previously expressed through his support for former President Donald Trump. His interview on Rogan’s podcast quickly gained traction, with over one million views in the first two hours, demonstrating significant public interest in Musk’s perspective on the future of X under shifting political climates.

As the election nears, Musk’s statements have sparked conversations across social media. While some users share his concerns about digital censorship, others fear the potential loss of a key social platform, highlighting the tension between Musk’s political views and the needs of X’s diverse user base.
