ISLAMABAD/LAHORE:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), seeking a response to the bail plea of PTI founder Imran Khan in a case involving a costly Bulgari jewellery set obtained from the Toshakhana at a heavily reduced price.
The prosecution claims that the jewellery set, valued at Rs71.5 million, was retained by the former prime minister and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, for only Rs2.9 million. Last month, Bushra Bibi, a co-accused in the case, was granted bail by the court.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard Imran Khan’s post-arrest bail petition on Monday.
During the proceedings, the court issued a formal notice to the FIA, directing it to provide a response.
Previously, a special central judge had rejected the PTI founder’s request for bail, prompting the appeal to the high court.
In a related development, the incarcerated PTI founder underwent a medical examination at Adiala Jail on Monday, with his personal physician declaring him healthy. The medical report will be submitted to the IHC.
According to jail sources, Imran’s personal doctor, Dr Asim Yousuf from Shaukat Khanum Hospital, conducted a comprehensive medical assessment, accompanied by three doctors from Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Sources confirmed that the doctors found his health satisfactory. However, they recommended further routine tests.
‘Psychological torture’
However, on the other hand, Imran’s sister, Aleema Khan, claimed that while Imran has not endured physical torture, he has been subjected to psychological stress.
Speaking to reporters about the conditions of his detention, Aleema revealed that Dr Asim found her brother stable but noted a significant weight loss. “The mental strain is evident.”
Meanwhile, PTI has announced plans to launch a nationwide campaign advocating for the rule of law, the supremacy of the constitution, the return of stolen public mandate, and the release of Imran Khan and all political prisoners.
