Herschel Walker mistakenly calls for votes for Donald Trump Jr. at a rally before correcting.

Herschel Walker, former NFL player and GOP Senate candidate, made an appearance at Donald Trump’s rally in Macon, Georgia, on Sunday, where he initially urged voters to support "Donald Trump Jr." before quickly correcting himself to endorse "Donald J. Trump." Speaking to the crowd, Walker encouraged supporters to stand with Trump, saying, “Let us not let Donald Trump down, because he’s not going to let us down.” Walker’s remarks came during his first public political appearance of the 2024 election cycle.

Walker, who lost his Senate race in 2022 amid controversies regarding his personal life, spoke for six minutes, emphasizing his longstanding friendship with Trump. Reflecting on their history, he recalled, "I can tell you 40 years ago—President Trump hasn’t changed. He still loves his family, loves his country, and we’re still friends.” Walker’s endorsement seemed aimed at rallying support for Trump in Georgia, a state where Walker's Senate campaign had faced criticism over allegations of hypocrisy related to his social conservative views.

The rally included prominent GOP figures, such as former Georgia senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who both lost their seats in 2020. Trump, during his speech, thanked Walker and made a peculiar pledge to put him "in charge of a missile defense shield," saying, “We’ll put Herschel Walker in charge of that little sucker.” Walker’s appearance also comes amid his return to the University of Georgia to complete his bachelor’s degree, according to an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
