NDMA Chairman Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir said 209 people have died and approximately five million people have been affected. Crops over millions of acres have been completely destroyed in this year’s flash floods.
A survey conducted by the NDMA revealed that the drainage systems of Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar among other cities fail to properly draw off water.
Heaps of garbage along with accumulated water and overflowing gutters can also be seen in these cities.
The NDMA has also notified that widespread devastation would be inevitable if steps are not taken to curb the issue.
Flooding has killed about 200 people, destroyed or damaged nearly one million houses and flooded 4.2 million acres of land since late August, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Pakistan is still haunted by memories of the 2010 floods which killed about 2,000 people and made 11 million homeless in one of the country’s worst natural disasters.
One-fifth of Pakistan was then submerged in water — an area the size of Italy — and the government, which was widely accused of reacting too slowly, faced $10 billion (6.3 billion pounds) in damages to infrastructure, irrigation systems, bridges, houses and roads.

@Akhand Bharaty:
I feel ashamed calling you Indian.
When hurricane hit US it is God's punishment but when floods come to Pakistan it is HAARP!
@Akhand Bharaty Pity you. Neither Gandhi nor any other prime leaders of India told India is only for Hindus. We being vibrant and largest democratic nation and what ever we are today is because of unity despite different cultural and religious people living here be it muslims, sikhs, buddhists, christians etc. And the 8% growth, shining and all other stuff you mentioned is not because of only hindus, its combined contribution from people of all religious sects. I wonder if you are true Indian. As far as Pakistan's floods situation I guess its not the time to quarel, lakhs of people are holding their lives in their hands, we are humans first. Not only indians but all people worldwide need to feel their grave situation and help them by awareness or donate to pakistan's flood relief organisations. I appeal to Pakistanis to help your people and not to wait for govt or army to do their bit. People do the statistics, mud slinging, etc later, this is the time to HELP.
Long live commisionerate system!
So what is NDMA doing about it??
@ ^ indianmuslim : heyy what are you saying sitting there in india? in Sindh only Pak-military is doing relief work, rescue work is done by army so far, and you calling army worst. and also our Army is defending us from your Indian war0crazy army. So plz Don't abuse our Army. Peace
as an indian muslim i feel pity for fellow muslims in pakistan. Your army is the worst they play double games by siding with west in killing fellow afghan muslims instead of helping flood affected people.
Astaghfirullah! Why dont we do something about it - starting with freaking using dustbins and proper garbarge disposal systems. People! this is like a doomsday scenario. Please please please lets start protests, spread awareness, force our incompetent leaders to do something about this issue.
