Nishad Yusuf, a prominent film editor known for his work in Malayalam and Tamil cinema, was found dead early Wednesday at his apartment in Kochi, Kerala.
Police discovered the body around 2 a.m. in the Panampilly Nagar area and are investigating, with initial indications pointing to a possible suicide. He was 43 years old.
According to Indian media, The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors' Union confirmed his death on social media, stating that Yusuf played a significant role in shaping modern Malayalam cinema.
FEFKA extended condolences, describing Yusuf's passing as a loss that the film industry "will not be able to quickly accept."
Yusuf, a recipient of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor in 2022.
His extensive filmography includes notable works like Thallumaala, Unda, One, and Saudi Vellakka, with upcoming releases including Bazooka and Kanguva, starring Suriya, Bobby Deol, and Disha Patani.
Bollywood personalities also expressed sorrow over his passing.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
