Wayans Brothers reunite to write 'Scary Movie 6' script, marking return to the parody franchise
The Wayans brothers, known for their comedic brilliance in parody films, are officially reuniting to write the script for Scary Movie 6, marking their first collaboration on the popular franchise in nearly 20 years. Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have confirmed they are writing the upcoming film, which is expected to hit theaters in 2025. This long-anticipated return was initially announced at CinemaCon in April, with Paramount Pictures set to distribute globally under a new partnership with Miramax, the studio behind the first three films.

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise,” Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman shared in a statement. “The timing is perfect to bring the series back, and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision leading the project.”The original Scary Movie debuted in July 2000, with Keenen Ivory Wayans directing the first two installments while Marlon and Shawn starred and contributed to the writing. Known for spoofing iconic horror films like Scream, The Sixth Sense, and The Blair Witch Project, the franchise amassed a dedicated fan base and continues to influence parody film culture.
As Scary Movie 6 enters production, plot details, casting news, and a director have yet to be announced, leaving fans eager to see if original stars like Anna Faris or Regina Hall will return. Marlon Wayans shared the news on social media, expressing excitement: “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, we’re finally giving fans what they’ve asked for — a return to the Scary Movie franchise.”
