Senator Sania Nishtar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has resigned from her Senate seat.

According to sources, Senator Nishtar stepped down due to her new employment with an international organisation in Geneva. She has submitted her resignation to the Senate Secretariat.

Sania Nishtar is a prominent physician, cardiologist, author, senator, and activist. In 2024, she was appointed CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Sania Nishtar previously served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, holding the status of Federal Minister, and chaired the Ehsaas Programme.

She was elected to the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2021 Senate elections.

In 2013, she was part of the interim federal cabinet, overseeing public health, education, and science.

She also chairs the International Advisory Board of the United Nations International Institute for Global Health and is part of the International Advisory Board on Global Health for the German Federal Government.
