RAWALPINDI:

In a bid to ease the internal tensions amid reports of rifts, PTI founder Imran Khan on Monday facilitated a reconciliation between PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, who was removed from cases concerning the former prime minister.

The development took place during the hearing of the £190 million reference case at Adiala Jail.

According to sources, the PTI founder intervened to resolve tensions between Barrister Raja and Faisal during the proceedings and directed the latter to rejoin the PTI legal team.

During the court proceedings, Imran and Faisal engaged in a lengthy conversation and embraced each other warmly, sources added.

Imran also advised Faisal to adhere to party policies and sent a message through him to Fawad Chaudhry – his brother who left the party during the crackdown on its leaders following the regime change in 2022 – urging him to refrain from making statements against the leadership and the party.

Barrister Ali Zafar was also present during the reconciliation process. Witnesses reported that the PTI founder remained in close contact with Faisal Chaudhry for a considerable time, whispering and discussing matters privately.

Earlier, Salman Akram Raja had recommended removing Faisal Chaudhry from the legal team.

The development comes after the PTI distanced itself from a petition filed in the Islamabad High Court by Advocate Faisal Chaudhry on behalf of Imran Khan, contesting the withdrawal of certain prison facilities.

Faisal claimed the petition had the backing of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a claim denied by Barrister Gohar who clarified that Faisal had acted independently, using an outdated wakalatnama (power of attorney) of Imran Khan.
