UK Met Office forecasts snowfall for November

The Met Office has predicted a possibility of snow in some areas of the UK, potentially arriving as early as next week.

This weekend, the UK is expected to experience ice, mist, and heavy fog, while the forecaster suggests that snow could make an appearance at the start of November, particularly in the northern and eastern regions.

In a long-range forecast covering October 30 to November 8, the Met Office stated: “Into the start of November, there is a chance the weather could (briefly) turn much colder/brighter, with a chance of snow showers in northern and eastern areas, but it’s equally possible these could stay clear of the UK, or the milder conditions could remain in place. Either way going forward, it’s likely to stay mainly settled, with an increasing chance of more unsettled weather developing later in this period.”

The forecast follows a spell of sunny weather this weekend, with dry and bright conditions anticipated across northern England, Wales, the Midlands, and south-west England on Saturday.

However, the rest of the country may see cloudy conditions. On Sunday, heavy rain is expected to move into northern areas before gradually spreading south throughout the day.

Temperatures are forecasted to peak at 16°C in the south-west on Saturday.

The weather will be “largely settled” with light rain or drizzle possible at times till Wednesday. The Met Office indicated that from Wednesday onwards, high pressure will create “often quiet and settled weather.”

In light of reports that Scottish towns may brace for 150-mile-long snow blasts, the Met Office cautioned that “headlines don’t always reflect the reality,” adding that “any snow will likely be confined to high ground in the north, as is normal for the time of year.”
