Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon has alleged foreign lobbying efforts, including an "Israeli lobby," in support of former prime minister Imran Khan.
"The Goldsmith group is active globally in support of Imran Khan," Memon claimed, adding that during Khan’s government, PPP leader Faryal Talpur was arrested on Eid. "We oppose the detention of any woman, be it a mother, sister, or daughter," he stated, addressing the press on Sunday.
"Behind this support are Khan’s former spouse [Jemima Goldsmith] and brother-in-law from the Goldsmith family," he said, adding that the accusations align with Dr Israr Khan’s past statements that "Imran Khan is an agent imposed by Israel."
Memon referenced the Election Commission’s findings, which reportedly showed that Imran Khan’s party had received funds from India and Israel.
He added that the late journalist Arshad Sharif highlighted foreign funding for PTI accounts, calling it evidence of Khan’s foreign ties. “If Israel is bothered by Khan’s arrest, it only highlights that he is their creation,” he asserted.
Memon, who also oversees Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, discussed Karachi's new Yellow Line BRT project, funded with $100 billion from the World Bank.
"This critical project for Karachi will operate through public-private partnerships," he said, noting plans to introduce environmentally friendly electric buses along the 21-kilometre route.
During the media briefing, Memon indicated discussions with the World Bank to push for electric vehicle (EV) buses on this route.
The project, which includes a new bridge near the Jam Sadiq bridge, is slated for completion in 18 months, though Memon expressed hope for an earlier finish.
Separately, Memon announced the PPP’s plan to launch double-decker and eco-friendly buses, underscoring the PPP government’s focus on sustainable urban transport.
