Jamali Bridge, located near the Karachi-Hyderabad M9 Motorway, has become a death trap for citizens who get robbed and even killed regularly at this point daily.
Two people have been killed near Jamali Bridge within the limits of Site Super Highway police station for resisting robbery this week, while a van driver was shot and injured by street criminals at the same spot on Friday night.
The van driver, 35-year-old Abdul Ghafoor, was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in critical condition, after he was shot by robbers over resistance.
Police, sharing preliminary investigation said, two motorcycle-riding robbers snatched Abdul Ghafoor's mobile phone near a restaurant on M9.
The driver chased the robbers and tried to knock them down with his vehicle near Jamali Bridge, but the vehicle slowed down due the dilapidated condition of the road giving the suspect the opportunity to retaliate. The suspect sitting on the back of the motorcycle opened fire on Abdul Ghafoor. The bullet pierced the windshield and hit him on the chest leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where his life was said to be 'hanging in balance'.
Due to increasing incidents of violent street robberies, the Jamali Bridge has become a feared spot for the citizens.
The increasing incidents of snatching at gunpoint by robbers on motorcycles have raised questions about the efficiency of the police officers posted in District East, which includes the Site Super Highway police station.
Earlier this week, Sadiq, an employee of SUPARCO was killed resisting robbers at the same sport. A citizen, Farhan, who was carrying cash he had acquired from selling sold his wife's gold jewellery for the treatment of his daughter, was shot dead by bandits on resistance.
