OKARA:

A man who shot and killed his sister at the DHQ Hospital in Okara over a domestic dispute was arrested on Thursday.

The suspect, Ajmal, had fled the scene immediately after the attack.

District Police Officer (DPO) Rashid Hidayat took notice of the incident and formed investigation teams under the supervision of SP Investigation Malik Dawood and SHO A-Division.

Police said the victim, Sonia, was shot by her brother inside the hospital during an argument.

The suspect escaped following the fatal shooting. DPO Rashid Hidayat, upon receiving news of the incident, visited the hospital with his team to examine the evidence and instructed the police to launch a search for the suspect.

Sonia, a resident of a nearby village (50/3R), worked at the DHQ Hospital in a private capacity and had two children. She had recently been living in the city with her children after separating from her husband.

CCTV footage from the hospital confirmed that Ajmal shot his sister and fled.

The police were able to trace and arrest him within a day using advanced technology.

SHO Rab Nawaz Wattoo, speaking to The Express Tribune, said that Ajmal had repeatedly asked Sonia to return to their village and live with the family, but she insisted on staying in Okara alone. Their ongoing disagreement led to a confrontation at the hospital, during which Ajmal shot her.

DPO Rashid Hidayat, condemning the senseless killing, stated, "Taking an innocent life is like killing all of humanity."

He assured that all evidence would be gathered to ensure Ajmal faces the harshest punishment, sending a strong message that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated.

Earlier in March, a man murdered his sister and a male cousin by slitting their throats with a knife allegedly over suspicion of infidelity.

Police said Azam Shah of Basti Rahmonka slit the throat of his sister Yasmeen, the mother of four children, and cousin Wali Shah, 40, in the Mcleod Ganj area.

The sources said that Azam called his sister and Wali to a place where he attacked them with the knife.

The suspect escaped after the murders.

A spokesman for the district police said a murder case had been registered against Azam and his three brothers on the complaint of Wali's brother Asif Shah.

The bodies were shifted to a hospital for post-mortem and raids conducted to arrest the suspects.

The spokesman said the murdered woman's husband suspected that she was having an affair with her cousin.
