Conference for journalists: Roundtable talk on attacks on media

Journalists from all four provinces of the country and AJK narrated their incidents in the discussion.

KARACHI: A round-table discussion on “Impunity to those attack journalists” was organised by the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) at a local hotel with the director of the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Dr Kozue Kay Nagata, as the chief guest. Journalists from all four provinces of the country and Azad Jammu and Kashmir narrated their incidents in the discussion. Dr Nagata said she was saddened to hear the testimonies of journalists who had faced violence, intimidation and other hardships while discharging their professional responsibilities. She said that Pakistani journalists are victims of circumstances that are both local and global. According to her journalists are the most powerful, educated, intellectual and elite section of civil society. The journalists would get proper protection with the the power of an educated society is behind them, she added.
