The Menendez brothers' defense claims they endured years of sexual abuse at the hands of their father, music executive Jose Menendez. Gascón has acknowledged his "moral and ethical obligation" to review the evidence, sparking criticism from his political opponent, Nathan Hochman, who called the timing "suspicious."
