Liam Payne's safety pin necklace resurfaces after death, leaving fans distraught

A TikTok theory about Liam Payne’s safety pin necklace has left fans speculating about his mental health struggles.

Following Liam Payne’s tragic death on October 16, 2024, a TikTok theory has gone viral, suggesting the singer’s safety pin necklace may have been a symbol of his mental health battles. 

The former One Direction star passed away after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, with the autopsy revealing "polytrauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" as the causes of death, as reported by TMZ. Payne was found to be under the influence of drugs, including the dangerous substance “Cristal,” which is known to cause aggressive behavior and hallucinations.

A TikTok user, @moniqe_monica, shared a screenshot of Payne wearing the safety pin necklace in a video, explaining, "If someone is wearing a safety pin necklace/bracelet every day, it is usually a promise not to kill themselves." Fans expressed heartbreak over the theory, with one user commenting, "Liam was screaming for help in plain sight."

Local police confirmed Payne's drug use and found cocaine in his hotel room, which they believe contributed to his erratic behavior before his death. Payne, who shared openly about his struggles with addiction and mental health in a 2021 podcast, is survived by his seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with ex-partner Cheryl Cole.
