Musk-funded pro-Trump PAC struggles with voter outreach targets

America PAC, a political action committee heavily funded by billionaire Elon Musk, is facing challenges in its efforts to re-elect former US President Donald Trump.

The Political Action Committee (PAC), which has received at least $75 million from Musk according to federal disclosures, is falling short of voter outreach goals in key swing states like Wisconsin and Nevada.

Additionally, there are concerns that some canvassers may have inflated the number of voter contacts made.

Four sources involved in the PAC's outreach reported that canvassing managers have warned workers that they are not meeting daily objectives.

The group has set a goal to contact 450,000 voters in Wisconsin alone before Election Day on November 5, but a recorded meeting from October 8 reveals that the team is significantly behind target.

"We are not going to hit 450,000, not with what we have now," a manager said during the meeting.

Alysia McMillan, a canvasser for the PAC in Wisconsin, voiced concerns that missing these targets could jeopardize Trump's re-election chances.

McMillan, who has worked with two local contractors hired by America PAC, claimed that canvassers were being pressured to meet unreachable goals and that discrepancies in outreach could waste time and money.

McMillan was fired by one contractor following a pay dispute but was rehired by another shortly afterward.

Meanwhile, in Nevada, an audit led by Chris Young, a Musk aide and long-time Republican operative, is underway to investigate whether some canvassers falsified their outreach efforts.

According to text messages reviewed by Reuters, some canvassers allegedly used smartphone apps to disguise their locations, falsely claiming to have knocked on doors they had not visited.

Several canvassers were reportedly fired after being caught by auditors.

America PAC's outreach strategy focuses on encouraging "low propensity voters" — individuals likely to support Trump but may not vote — to cast their ballots in critical battleground states.

These states, including Wisconsin, Nevada, and Arizona, could be key to securing a victory for Trump or his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, in what polls indicate is a highly contested election.

Despite the influx of financial support from Musk, the PAC has struggled with some operational issues. Sources familiar with the outreach efforts reported that it has been difficult to retain canvassers, many of whom complain about low pay and poor working conditions.

Some canvassers have been paid as little as $20 per hour, with no reimbursement for travel expenses, which can be significant given the remote areas they are required to cover.

In response to the challenges, America PAC has recently raised its advertised starting pay to $30 per hour with bonuses for performance in an attempt to attract more canvassers.

However, concerns about reaching outreach targets and potential issues with the integrity of canvassing figures remain.

Elon Musk, who has grown increasingly vocal in his support of Republican causes, has played a central role in Trump’s campaign efforts through his financial backing of America PAC.

Earlier this year, Trump announced that if re-elected, he would appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency commission. Neither Musk nor the Trump campaign have commented on the PAC’s recent struggles.
