CHAK JHUMRA:

Family members and relatives of two motorcyclists who fell to their deaths from the Tariqabad flyover last week staged a protest, blocking the road at District Council Chowk.

The demonstrators demanded accountability for the negligence that led to the fatal incident and called for urgent safety measures on the flyover. The protest concluded after police officials intervened and negotiated with the crowd, successfully dispersing the demonstrators.

The incident, which occurred on October 12, 2024, claimed the lives of Mohammad Shehbaz and Nawaz in a motorcycle accident.

The crash was allegedly caused by unsafe design features on the flyover, including narrow lanes and sharp curves, which the protesters said were compounded by inadequate safety barriers.

Family members of the victims, along with residents of Chak No. 224 Wazir Khan Wali, including Muhammad Khalid and Mukhtar, led the protest, demanding justice for the victims.

They criticised the failure of the concerned authorities to repair the hazardous Abdullahpur flyover, despite its poor design and history of frequent accidents, particularly at night.

The protest highlighted a growing frustration over the dangerous conditions of the flyover, which has become a recurring site for accidents.
