Women’s work: Free legal aid for women

SBWC has registered over 904 cases since its inception and over 520 have been settled and 282 are under process.

FAISALABAD:

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women Centre (SBWC), Faisalabad, is providing free of cost legal and medical aid as well as counseling services to women in the district. According to SBWC chairperson Kausar Butt, the centre has registered over 904 cases since its inception and over 520 have been settled and 282 are under process.

Butt said that 102 cases had been disposed of and that the centre was working to address all kinds of complaints from women. “We are also working to provide temporary shelter to 10 women who have been turned out of their homes,” she said. She said that the organisation had registered 15 domestic violence cases, 274 cases for medical aid, 215 for legal aid, 61 for violence in custody and divorce issues and several others. She said the basic objective of the centre was to provide free aid to women who were victimised by their in-laws, relatives and others segments of society.

Centre supervisor Kanwal Shehzad, DO (Social Welfare) Chaudhry Sarfraz Ahmed, Social Welfare officer Sanam Zohra and committee members Najma Afzal also attended the meeting.
